Episode 20: Jordan Raynor

Jordan Raynor Redeeming Your Time interview

REDEEMING YOUR TIME: BE PURPOSEFUL, PRESENT, AND WILDLY PRODUCTIVE

We can hardly contain this guest’s passion to one episode, so listen in and get to know JORDAN RAYNOR. He is a serial entrepreneur, podcast host, twice selected Google fellow, and author. Jordan’s an accomplished guy but he’s not naive to the pressures of our world. Despite the numerous resources on time management and work-life balance, many people still feel overwhelmed with with to-do lists, busy schedules, the constant notifications… Jordan’s book, Redeeming Your Time is a practical answer to how Christians can approach the topic of work while maintaining healthy boundaries and expectations. I loved hearing Jordan’s passion, his Biblical wisdom, and his memorable anecdotes (wait until you hear about “the mailman”).

AND ONE QUESTIONS

ONE PERSON WHO HAS MADE A LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

Tim Keller

ONE THING YOU’RE LOVING THESE DAYS THAT WE SHOULD CHECK OUT?

Dopesick on Hulu. The most beautiful mainstream vision for the impact Christians can have working in the “secular world.”

ONE WAY YOU’RE CONNECTING WITH GOD THESE DAYS?

My daily quiet time, the first hour of my day.

ONE LESSON YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE LEARNED SOONER?

The lesson I tell my kids every night before bed. I tell them “Do you know daddy loves you no matter how many bad things you do? Do you know I also love you no matter how many good things you do? Who else loves you like that? Jesus.”

I wish somebody would have told me sooner that the God of the Universe who died for me when I was His enemy loves me regardless of how productive or unproductive I am.

ONE TRAIT YOU HAD AS A KID GROWING UP THAT YOU STILL HAVE TODAY?

Making things, selling things, being an entrepreneur.

ONE WAY YOU’RE MOVING INTO THIS NEXT YEAR WITH HOPE?

I’ve been meditating a lot on Isaiah 60. Work done in the Spirit, in accordance with God’s commands, can physically last into eternity. We all want to make something that’s going to last forever. The Bible says that’s true and it’s done when you work in accordance with the Lord’s commands.

RESOURCES MENTIONED

7 Biblical Principles:

  1. Start with the Word
  2. Let Your Yes Be Yes
  3. Dissent from the Kingdom of Noise
  4. Prioritize Your Yeses
  5. Accept Your “Unipresence”
  6. Embrace Productive Rest
  7. Eliminate All Hurry
